A little homeschool update...

I have found myself needing to "unschool" myself a little. The advantage of homeschooling is that it doesn't need to be rigid curriculum and test prepping. My teaching background, though useful in a lot of ways, has also been a bit of a hindrance in this process. I am having to change my educational paradigms to align with my visions for what my son's education will look like.
That said, we are doing some really great things. I am LOVING the financial literacy, economics, and entrepreneurship learning we are doing. Ty is completely on board with this and it's so exciting to watch.
I also love the amount of reading we do. We have a good balance of him reading to me and me reading to him. Isn't listening to your child as they are starting to really take off reading one of the absolute greatest gifts we can experience as parents?? It's one of my favorite things. I love reading, so sharing this love with him feels pretty special.
Not everything has been unicorns and rainbows. We've had some full on melt downs during school - sometimes him, sometimes me. But we are learning how to make it work, and I think it will continue to improve.
One thing I can say for 100% certainty, is that I am regaining a connection with my son that even at eight years old we had started to lose. Our time together is filled with intention and presence, and that has made a huge difference.
Plus, I have to say that I absolutely LOVE teaching again. You can take the girl out of the school, but you can never take the teacher out of the girl.
