About The Event
Running a ranch is about more than cattle, land, and markets, it’s about people. Families, spouses, neighbors, and employees are at the heart of every decision, and as Allan Crockett says, “Every problem is a people problem.” Ranch life brings unique challenges: generational transitions, family disagreements, hard conversations about money and land, and the daily stress of trying to handle it the best way you know how.
This one-and-a-half-day, in-person conference is designed to help you navigate those very challenges with tools and strategies that work in real ranching life. You’ll walk away with practical ways to be the leader your ranch needs, improve communication, strengthen teamwork, and find common ground in tough situations. More than that, you’ll connect with others who understand what it’s like to live and work in family ranching: people who know the weight, the responsibility, and the heart that goes into keeping an operation strong.
This is your chance to step away from the daily grind, gain fresh perspective, and return home with clarity, confidence, and renewed hope for the future of your ranch.
We strongly encourage you to bring your whole family so everyone can hear the same message, gain the same insights, and head home ready to work together with a shared vision. To make that possible, we’ve built a tiered ticket structure that keeps it affordable: $675 for the first person, $100 for a second from the same ranch, $75 for a third, and $50 for a fourth (up to six total).

About The Event
At the heart of every ranch is its people, and that’s exactly where this speaker team shines. With a shared passion for the land and the families who work it, John Haskell, John Locke, and Emilie Hopson bring decades of experience in ranch business, leadership, and human dynamics. From untangling financial knots to building strong teams and navigating generational transitions, they understand the grit and grace it takes to keep a family ranch running. Together, they offer a powerful, practical approach to leading well, because the people part of ranching is the part that matters most.
Keynote Presenters

John Haskell
Ranch Right LLC
Twenty years ago, John worked for a profitable ranch — something he had never seen before. It changed the course of his life.
Since then, he's worked with other profitable ranches, launched new ranch businesses from scratch, turned around struggling operations, and shared what he's learned through Ranch Right’s consulting services. His focus is helping ranchers build operations that are both financially strong and aligned with their personal goals.
He and his wife, Brittany, live near Ranchester, Wyoming, with their three kids (ages 7, 5, and 4). Alongside Ranch Right, they run cows and stockers across the country and own a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu gym. Brittany also coaches volleyball for our local high school and club teams.

John Locke
Ranch Management Consultants
A sixth-generation member of the JD Hudgins Inc Ranching operation on the Texas Gulf Coast, John Locke has been a part of many changes to the family operation over the past two decades. After returning home upon graduating from Texas Tech in 2001, a 200-year drought and a major family succession event forever changed the way Locke looked at the family business.
Starting over with a significantly smaller asset base to support the same number of families has a way of bringing about inevitable change. For Locke it turned into a blessing in disguise that made it impossible to “do things the way they have always been done” A chance meeting with Dave Pratt and attending the Ranching for Profit School, as well as joining RMC’s Executive Link program, created a different lens to look into the business through and ultimately led to many positive life and business changes.
Working side by side with his father Coleman in the day-to-day management of their division, Locke also has been blessed to have been selected and trained as an Instructor of the Ranching for Profit School.
Apart from the ranch and family commitments which include the activities of his three beautiful daughters Lauryn, Lyndsey, Lylee, and wife Salina, John teaches several of the week long RFP schools a year, helps to facilitate Executive Link meetings, and often guides client families across the US through difficult conversations and situations.
